Light in the Landscape
An immersive Photography Workshop
Denis Smith & Adam Edwards
Light in the Landscape # 2 - Mungo National Park
After the huge success of the first Light in the Landscape workshop, we are heading back for another unforgettable creative experience, this time in the timeless beauty of Mungo National Park.
Step into the night and create something truly special.
This is more than a photography workshop; it is a creative journey through one of Australia’s most awe-inspiring landscapes, from golden hour to the quiet magic of moonlight.
Join outback photographer Adam Edwards and internationally acclaimed light painter Denis Smith for a hands-on, two-day experience that blends powerful landscape composition, storytelling, and the art of light painting after dark.
You will be guided through the shifting light of late afternoon and into the stillness of night. You will learn how to read the land, craft a balanced composition, and bring it to life with creative lighting techniques.
Whether you are refining your landscape photography or exploring the surreal world of light painting, this is your chance to learn from two photographers who believe in slowing down, seeing deeply, and capturing the spirit of a place, one light at a time.

Your workshop leaders
Denis Smith

Deep in the Australian landscape, Denis discovered photography's healing power. His work is grounded in the relationship between the landscape and personal transformation—something he has explored through art and teaching for over 15 years.
Denis is passionate about sharing all that he’s learned. His workshops are shaped by personal experience—offering a space for healing, an incredible amount of fun and a technical understanding of adding light into the night.
As a light painter, Denis is a pioneer in bringing light painting into the landscape. Under a bright moon or a sky full of stars, this process adds an ethereal, mesmerising dimension to the natural world.
Now studying to become a counselor, Denis is focusing his time back in Australia after an intense period of international creative travel. This shift allows him to dive deeper into his true passion: sharing knowledge with others who are keen to explore the wonder of light painting.
Adam Edwards

In the Australian outback, Adam Edwards found more than striking landscapes; he found a way to express how he sees the world. His photography is rooted in curiosity, storytelling, and a deep connection to place.
Adam’s workshops reflect that same approach. They're not just about taking great photos, learning to see differently, building confidence, and slowing down to connect with the landscape.
With a mix of hands-on guidance and thoughtful feedback, he helps photographers grow creatively and technically.
A passionate educator and community builder, Adam now focuses on creating meaningful photography experiences through workshops, online programs, and a growing network of like-minded creatives.

The fundamentals of light painting – Use tools, movement, and exposure to shape light creatively in your compositions.
-
Balancing natural and artificial light: Discover how to enhance your scene with moonlight, ambient glow, and creative lighting tools.
-
Creating light painting portraits and still life – Use light as a storytelling tool for expressive and artistic results.
-
Advanced light painting and precision techniques – Push creative boundaries and develop your style.
-
Post-processing your night images – Bring your light painting work to life while staying true to the feeling and depth of the scene.

Why choose this workshop?

Balance of Practical and Theory
This workshop is built around a perfect balance of learning and doing. We’ll begin in the gallery space—an inspiring environment designed for creativity—where you’ll get clear, practical instruction on the theory behind light painting and night photography. From there, we’ll head out into the field to put it all into practice, with plenty of hands-on support to help you refine your technique and capture something truly unique.

Two expert instructors
With both Denis and myself guiding you, you’ll get the best of two worlds—Denis brings his deep expertise in light painting, while I’ll support you with landscape composition, camera settings, and creative vision. We’re there every step of the way to offer individual support, answer your questions, and help you get the most out of every shot.

Unique Experience
This isn’t your average night photography workshop. The combination of historic landscapes, starlit skies, and the magic of light painting makes for an experience that’s as inspiring as it is educational. Whether it’s your first time shooting at night or you’re looking to take your creativity further, this workshop offers a rare opportunity to learn in a setting that’s both technically rich and creatively freeing.

Community over competition
"In the photography world, success doesn't come from competing with others but building community. When we support and inspire each other, we create a space where creativity can thrive. By embracing collaboration over competition, we open doors to new ideas and endless possibilities." - Adam Edwards
